NEW Client notes Summer 2021

(7/2021 update)

Thank you for your interest in Veterinary Behavior Consultants We have had VERY HEAVY demand for new patient appointments during Covid pandemic and have now filled all of our new patient slots (and “overflow waiting list”) before the summer pause in San Diego new client clinics at start of July.

If you can cannot wait until we restart San Diego new patient clinics in the Fall (likely in October 2021), we encourage you to see our specialty college (American College of Veterinary Behaviorists) website ( to see if there is another DACVB specialist seeing patients in the S. Cal region that may be seeing cases over the summer while Dr. Melese is out of the region until Fall. Note: at this time there are no other Veterinary Behaviorists based in San Diego County. When we restart San Diego new patient clinics in the fall, we are still not sure if we will continue to be using our current telemedicine consultation via Zoom followed immediately with a brief curbside exam in front of home office, or if we will be restarting to see patients at the Kearny Mesa clinic facility. There are still too many pandemic-related unknown issues to predict that far out. We apologize that we are not able to offer you a prompt new-patient appointment as we have been making again available in San Diego since last October 2020 and, although the doctor will be doing many recheck appointments for ongoing patients during this summer sabbatical, we are legally not able to start new cases until the doctor is back in San Diego. We look forward to helping you with the behavior issues you have with your pet when we again start taking new patients and in the meantime, you can go see our website for some basic safety suggestions: Safety Steps while waiting and FAQs.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable summer!
